We lead the curriculum development work behind Beloved Birth Black Centering: facilitation guides, childbirth education, patient handouts, and group activities for all 15 group visits, original to Beloved Birth and revised continually with input from Beloved’s care team and families. Grounded in midwifery philosophy, our materials support shared decision-making, informed consent, holistic wellness, and birth equity. And we're preparing them to share with Black communities and others adapting the model.

We're building the tools and support other communities need to bring the Beloved Birth approach to life: implementation guides, coaching, and partnership in assessing gaps and adapting the model with fidelity. We're already sharing our strategies, lessons, and materials with LATIR, a community-centered Spanish-language Centering program inspired by our work. Partnership opportunities launch in Fall 2027.

Our care model keeps evolving. We pair what the evidence shows with what our families tell us, refining group visits, adding services like massage and bodywork, and building toward a dyad care model extending to 3 years postpartum. Every change is designed with community, and measured by what it means for families.

We grow and sustain a perinatal workforce ready to lead transformative care. With a focus on midwives and public health professionals, we support professional development and provider wellbeing.

We mentor midwifery students in clinical placements with Beloved Birth Black Centering at Alameda Health System. We partner with colleges and universities to bring the Beloved Birth approach into their courses. And we create leadership opportunities for midwives in our community.

We offer ongoing learning for midwives and perinatal providers. We build skills in respectful, team-based care grounded in birth justice. And we equip providers and staff to put the Beloved Birth approach into practice.

We care for the people who give care. With the Beloved Birth Black Centering team, we've surveyed provider wellbeing, woven healing into our trainings, and advocated for health systems and funders to resource this work. Now we're building the capacity to share these tools with other care teams.
Knowledge Creation & Systems Change
We measure what matters to families, share what we learn, and help shift systems toward care that works, bringing together rigorous evidence, community voice, and the timeless wisdom at the heart of midwifery.

In collaboration with UC Berkeley's Wallace Center, Alameda Health System, and Alameda County Health, we study what matters most, prioritizing both care experience and birth outcome data. Mothers and Beloved alumni help co-design our evaluation plans and tools, and help carry them out. We share what we learn through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and our community impact reports.

We advocate for policies that make proven care the standard, not the exception: enhanced reimbursement for group prenatal care, adequate payment for perinatal care, including holistic wrap-around services, and a growing, diverse midwifery workforce. We bring five years of evidence to health system leaders, funders, and policymakers. Because when the solutions are known, we have an obligation to scale them.

We share our story so more communities can build care like this, through public education, media, podcasts, conferences, and convenings. We celebrate Black-led birth equity solutions and the families and care teams who bring them to life. And we invite everyone, from parents to policymakers, to demand community-centered, evidence-based, midwifery-led care.
